This identity system for the fictional National Carrot Council was inspired by the vegetable’s interesting involvement in human history and the physical core that runs through its center. The core resembles a second, smaller carrot, and the lesser-known and shockingly involved history it has in World War II led to the idea of highlighting an “unseen” image. I decided to embrace figure-ground reversal, or the use of negative space to create a second image, to demonstrate this concept.
A quick note from history: radar was invented during WWII initially by the Allies. Because it became suspicious as to why fighter pilots were so accurate fighting at night, propaganda popped up claiming it was carrots that was improving the pilots’ vision. While it is sadly untrue, carrots don’t make eyesight better, it made for some very interesting posters.
